Product Description

The Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 is an ideal choice for hobbyists and entry-level detectorists looking for a well-rounded, powerful machine. Designed for coin shooting, relic hunting, and general-purpose metal detection, it features a user-friendly interface and advanced discrimination capabilities that set it apart from other detectors in its class.

Powered by VLF technology, the Pioneer 202 delivers accurate target identification and responsive audio cues. It offers four operating modes—All Metal, Discriminate, Notch, and Auto Notch—to adapt to various environments and target types. The LCD display provides real-time visual ID and depth readings, while three-tone audio helps distinguish between iron, foil, pull-tabs, and high-value targets. Adjustable sensitivity and discrimination controls give users more precision and fewer false positives during searches.

This detector is lightweight and ergonomically designed with a padded armrest, S-rod handle, and adjustable stem for comfortable all-day detecting. The 8” waterproof searchcoil allows for use in shallow water and rugged terrain, and the control panel’s simple layout makes it easy to operate. With a battery life of up to 20–25 hours using 9V alkaline batteries, the Pioneer 202 is ready for extended sessions in the field.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Pioneer 202 suitable for beginners?

Yes, the Pioneer 202 is beginner-friendly with simple touchpad controls, intuitive settings, and preset ground balance. It offers just enough advanced features to grow with you as you gain more experience.

What types of metals can it detect?

The Pioneer 202 can detect a wide range of metals including gold, silver, copper, brass, iron, and aluminum. It also features discrimination and notch modes to help filter out unwanted junk like pull-tabs and nails.

Can I use the Pioneer 202 on the beach or in water?

Yes, the 8" searchcoil is waterproof and can be used for shallow water detecting, such as on wet sand or in creeks. However, the control housing is not waterproof and should be kept dry.

How deep can it detect metal objects?

Depth depends on object size, soil conditions, and settings, but coin-sized targets can typically be detected up to 6–8 inches deep. Larger objects may be detected at greater depths.

Does it have a display to identify the target?

Yes, it has an LCD screen that provides a probable target ID and estimated depth. Combined with three-tone audio feedback, it helps you decide whether to dig or skip.

What batteries does it use and how long do they last?

It uses two 9V alkaline batteries (not included). Battery life averages 20–25 hours, depending on headphone usage and sensitivity settings.

Is it adjustable for different user heights?

Yes, the detector shaft is adjustable and designed to accommodate users of various heights. The padded armrest and lightweight design also make it comfortable for extended use.

Can I use headphones with it?

Absolutely. It has a standard 1/4" headphone jack. Using headphones can help extend battery life and improve sound clarity, especially in noisy environments.

Does it have a pinpoint feature?

While it doesn’t have an electronic pinpoint mode, you can manually pinpoint by using the “X-ing” technique described in the manual to narrow down target location.

What’s the difference between All Metal, Discriminate, Notch, and Auto Notch modes?

All Metal: Detects all types of metal with maximum depth.

Discriminate: Filters out junk like iron and foil.

Notch: Lets you manually eliminate specific targets.

Auto Notch: Automatically rejects most trash items like pull-tabs, while keeping valuable targets.
