    Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Tracker IV perform in mineralized soil?

Yes, the depth of detection varies based on soil composition. Highly mineralized soil, such as black sand, can reduce depth, whereas dry, non-mineralized soil allows deeper detection. The Tracker IV’s automatic ground balance helps mitigate some of these effects.

How does the Tracker IV perform in heavily trash-laden areas?

The ideal swing speed is about 1 to 2 feet per second. Swinging too fast may cause the detector to miss small or deep targets, while swinging too slowly may cause unstable signals.

What is the detection range in terms of distance for large objects?

The searchcoil is waterproof and can be submerged, but the control housing must remain dry. Wet sand, especially on saltwater beaches, can cause false signals. Reducing sensitivity or using the All Metal mode can help improve stability.

How does the Tracker IV differentiate between different types of coins?

The Tone Discrimination mode helps distinguish iron targets by producing no response or a broken tone. However, deep or highly oxidized iron objects may still produce inconsistent signals due to their size and shape.
Does the Tracker IV work with rechargeable batteries?
Yes, but the ability to separate adjacent targets depends on the size of the searchcoil and the discrimination setting. Using slow, controlled sweeps and adjusting discrimination can help differentiate closely positioned objects.
Is there a difference in performance between using headphones and the speaker?
While sensitivity settings can maximize depth, using a larger searchcoil (if compatible) can also improve depth. However, larger coils may reduce sensitivity to small objects.
