    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended swing speed for optimal target detection?

For the Bounty Hunter Gold, the recommended swing speed is about 2-3 feet per second. Swinging too fast may cause the detector to miss deep or small targets, while swinging too slowly can lead to overlapping signals and unnecessary chatter.

How does the detector handle black sand and highly mineralized soil?

The Bounty Hunter Gold features automatic ground balancing, which helps reduce false signals in mineralized soil. However, in extreme conditions like black sand, lowering the sensitivity and ensuring slow, even sweeps will improve performance.

Does the detector differentiate between small gold nuggets and aluminum foil?

Both small gold nuggets and aluminum foil fall within the same conductivity range on the Target ID scale. To improve gold detection, use All Metal mode and listen for consistent repeatable signals. Shallow foil often gives a loud, erratic response, whereas deeper gold signals are more stable.

How deep can the Bounty Hunter Gold detect small gold nuggets?

Detection depth depends on nugget size, mineralization, and coil settings. A small grain-sized gold nugget can typically be detected at 2-4 inches, while a larger quarter-sized nugget may be detected at 6-10 inches in ideal conditions.
Why does the detector sometimes give ghost signals with no metal present?

Ghost signals can be caused by:

    • Highly mineralized ground – Reduce sensitivity.
    • Hot rocks – These can mimic metal signals. Try adjusting your discrimination settings.
    • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) – Keep away from power lines, Wi-Fi routers, and other metal detectors.
What is the best way to distinguish between a deep valuable target and shallow trash?
  • Deep targets tend to have weaker but consistent signals.
  • Shallow trash (like aluminum foil or pull-tabs) often produces a loud, sharp, erratic tone.
  • Use Pinpoint mode (if available) or raise the coil slightly to see if the signal weakens (shallow trash will still give a strong tone).
