Easy to get the hang of.

Little bit of time with the manual and watched a couple videos and I had a pretty good idea of the operation. I’ve been out in the desert around Vegas a couple times now and have had good results. An easy detector to use and very light weight. Looking to get better with it each time I go out. Highly recommend this model.

Amazing Machine

Probably one of the best gold prospecting machines out there. I have the Equinox 800 and this is more stable in mineralized soil and yes it CAN find small gold

Product Description

Engineered for serious gold prospectors and advanced users, the Fisher Gold Bug® Pro is designed to detect the smallest gold nuggets even in highly mineralized soil. With its high 19 kHz operating frequency and precision 5" DD searchcoil, it stands out for its exceptional sensitivity to low-conductivity targets like gold. Ideal for prospectors, relic hunters, and those working in challenging ground conditions.

The Gold Bug® Pro offers impressive depth and accuracy through features like real-time computerized Ground Grab® ground balancing, a 2-digit target ID display, and multi-tone audio for quick discrimination. Its All Metal mode maximizes sensitivity, while the Discrimination mode helps eliminate unwanted targets. Pinpoint mode provides accurate depth and location information, making recovery easier and more efficient. Whether you're hunting in iron-rich soil or mineral-dense terrain, this detector delivers consistent results.

Built for durability and ease of use, the Gold Bug® Pro weighs just 2.5 lbs and features an adjustable S-rod with padded grip for all-day comfort. Its intuitive controls, long battery life (up to 20 hours on a single 9V battery), and waterproof searchcoil ensure it's ready for extended outdoor use. From hillsides to black sand beds, the Gold Bug® Pro is a rugged and reliable tool for focused treasure hunting.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of using the 5" DD coil over larger coils in mineralized ground?

The 5" DD coil provides greater sensitivity to small gold targets and better performance in highly mineralized soil. Its narrow detection field improves target separation and precision pinpointing, which is essential for prospecting in trashy or iron-rich environments.

How does Ground Grab® differ from manual ground balancing?

Ground Grab® automatically sets the GND BAL value to match the soil’s phase reading while pumping the coil. Manual balancing using the "+" and "–" buttons lets users fine-tune for a slightly positive or negative ground response, offering more control in variable mineralization or near hot rocks.

Why does gold sometimes ID inconsistently across multiple passes?

Due to its low conductivity and irregular shapes, gold—especially in nugget form—often produces varying Target-ID values. Mineralization, target depth, and coil angle can all influence these fluctuations. This is expected behavior and reinforces the need to dig all repeatable signals when prospecting.

How do I interpret the Fe₃O₄ bar graph and use it in the field?

The Fe₃O₄ bar graph shows the volume concentration of iron minerals in the soil. A higher reading indicates heavier mineralization. In prospecting, focusing on areas with strong Fe₃O₄ readings can increase the likelihood of locating gold-bearing black sands.

What’s the benefit of using All Metal mode over Discrimination mode in gold prospecting?

All Metal mode operates at maximum sensitivity and responds to all metal types, providing deeper detection and better performance in mineralized soil. Discrimination mode can mask weak gold signals due to its filtering of unwanted targets, making All Metal mode preferable for gold hunting.

Can I use the Gold Bug® Pro effectively in wet salt environments?

The detector is optimized for mineralized inland soils and may struggle in wet salt environments due to the conductive properties of saltwater. While it includes a wide ground balance range, performance in wet sand is limited compared to multi-frequency detectors designed for beach use.

What is the ideal Gain and Threshold setup for maximum sensitivity?

Start with the Gain around 60–70 and slowly increase the Threshold to achieve a faint, stable hum. Then raise the Gain until slight chatter begins, and back off slightly. This setup helps detect the smallest targets without being overwhelmed by noise.

How does the detector handle hot rocks, and what can I do to mitigate them?

Hot rocks can produce either a “boing” or “zip” sound depending on whether they’re negative or positive. Proper ground balancing reduces their interference. Carrying a magnet can help confirm whether a signal is caused by a hot rock or metal, as most hot rocks are magnetic.

Does the depth indicator work for all targets?

No, the depth readout is calibrated for coin-sized targets. Larger or irregular objects may appear shallower or deeper than they are. Use the pinpoint function to better gauge depth and isolate target size through audio pitch and volume.

What settings should I use for relic hunting with the optional 11" DD coil?

Use Discrimination mode with Gain set around 65–80 depending on EMI and soil conditions. Set Disc Level between 35–50 to reject small iron but retain larger relics. Ground balance before starting and use Pinpoint to isolate larger targets at depth.
