Product Description

The Fisher XLT-100 is a compact acoustic leak detector designed for utility professionals who need a precise, easy-to-use solution for locating underground water line leaks. Ideal for municipal crews, plumbers, and field technicians, the XLT-100 offers intuitive controls and real-time audio feedback, making leak detection more accurate and less time-consuming.

Engineered for performance, the XLT-100 uses a sensitive contact transducer to amplify vibration and sound levels from pipe walls and fittings. It features a digital display that reads signal strength from 0 to 99, eight customizable frequency filters (boost and reject), and three notch filter settings for 50Hz or 60Hz power line noise rejection. With selectable volume, mute function, and automatic shutoff, users can easily fine-tune detection based on their environment—all while reducing ear fatigue and false signals.

Built with rugged field use in mind, the XLT-100 is lightweight and includes a padded housing for a comfortable grip. It runs on two AA batteries for up to 15 hours and includes interchangeable probe extensions for added reach in grass or difficult terrain. A backlit LCD ensures visibility in all lighting conditions, while its simple plug-and-play interface minimizes training time and maximizes uptime in the field.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of sensor does the XLT-100 use for leak detection?

The XLT-100 uses a highly sensitive contact transducer that detects and amplifies acoustic vibrations from pressurized leaks in water lines and fittings.

How do the selectable filters improve leak detection accuracy?

The XLT-100 offers 8 filters that boost or reject specific center frequencies (500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz), allowing users to isolate leak sounds from background noise and environmental interference.

Can the XLT-100 filter out electrical interference from power lines?

Yes, it includes notch filter options at 50 Hz and 60 Hz to suppress common electrical interference from nearby power sources.

What is the default frequency response range of the XLT-100?

In its default mode (filter 0), the XLT-100 operates in an all-pass mode from 40 Hz to 8 kHz, enabling wideband listening before applying any frequency-specific filters.

How is signal strength displayed during operation?

The LCD screen shows a numeric vibration level from 0 to 99, reflecting the relative intensity of detected leak sounds in real time.

What’s the advantage of the dual 13-inch extension rods?

The extension rods increase reach and contact access in grassy or obstructed areas, improving ergonomics and detection precision without bending or repositioning.

Is the XLT-100 suitable for pinpointing leaks in plastic pipes?

While acoustic detection is more effective on metal pipes, the XLT-100 can detect leaks on plastic lines if pressure and turbulence are sufficient to produce audible vibrations.

What happens if the batteries are low during use?

The XLT-100 will display a low battery warning on the LCD and will automatically shut off if voltage drops below operating levels, preventing erratic behavior.

How does the mute function support safe operation?

The mute button silences output during probe placement, preventing sudden loud feedback when the transducer contacts hard surfaces, protecting the user's hearing.

Can the unit be used continuously in outdoor environments?

Yes, the XLT-100 is built with field durability in mind. While not fully waterproof, it’s resistant to dust and light moisture, making it suitable for most utility work conditions.
