    Frequently Asked Questions

What type of batteries should I use for optimal performance with the Junior T.I.D. Metal Detector?

The searchcoil is waterproof and can be submerged in shallow water, but the control housing is not waterproof and must remain dry. Avoid submerging the detector beyond the coil.

How does the Junior T.I.D. differentiate between types of metals?

The Junior T.I.D. has a fixed ground balance that automatically compensates for mild mineralization, but it does not have manual ground balance adjustment for extreme soil conditions.

Why does the detector occasionally show a “Lift Coil” message?

The detector can identify small coin-sized objects up to 6 inches deep, but very small items like gold flakes or fine wire may not be detected effectively.

What is the maximum depth the Junior T.I.D. can detect objects?

Electromagnetic interference from power lines, buried cables, or electronic devices can cause erratic signals. Move away from these sources or adjust your search technique for better stability.
Can the Junior T.I.D. detect gold jewelry accurately?
If the "Lift Coil" warning appears, the detected object may be a large metal piece or highly mineralized soil. Raise the coil higher or scan from a different angle to refine detection.
Is the Junior T.I.D. suitable for use near water?
Yes, Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries are recommended for extended use. However, avoid mixing battery types and ensure they are fully charged for consistent performance.
