Product Description

The Fisher F70 metal detector is engineered for versatility and high performance, making it an ideal choice for both enthusiasts and professionals. Built to handle various detecting activities such as coin shooting, relic hunting, and even gold prospecting, the F70 is known for its sensitivity and its ability to operate in challenging soil conditions.

Its key feature is the 9 3/4" open-frame waterproof concentric elliptical search coil, which provides a wide sweep area and precision targeting. The operating frequency of 13 kHz enhances its sensitivity to a wide range of metal objects, from small gold nuggets to larger relics. The F70 also features an intuitive interface, with a large LCD screen displaying essential data like target identification, ground mineralization levels, and battery condition.

Equipped with GroundGrab™ touchpad ground balancing, the F70 ensures optimal performance by counteracting the effects of soil mineralization. Users can take advantage of multiple search modes, including Discrimination and Autotune, allowing for fine-tuning based on specific targets and environments. The device’s lightweight and well-balanced design, combined with a comfortable foam elastomer grip, reduces fatigue during extended use.

Designed for ease of use, superior detection depth, and rugged durability, the Fisher F70 promises to deliver reliable performance in a wide range of detecting scenarios, all backed by a robust 2-year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of using the Delta-pitch tone setting on the Fisher F70?

The Delta-pitch tone mode allows the detector to generate a different pitch for every numeric Target ID value, providing greater precision in target identification, especially in trashy environments where a wide range of targets may be present.

How does the F70’s high sensitivity setting affect performance in saltwater environments?

The F70 is not specifically designed for saltwater use, but by reducing the sensitivity to below 30 and adjusting the GroundGrab™ feature, users can minimize false signals from conductive saltwater while retaining acceptable sensitivity to metal targets.

How does frequency shifting on the Fisher F70 help mitigate electrical interference?

The F70 allows users to shift between 7 different operating frequencies, which is particularly useful when detecting near power lines or other metal detectors, as it reduces cross-talk and noise, ensuring more stable operation.

What is the relationship between sensitivity and threshold settings in achieving optimal depth?

While higher sensitivity can increase depth detection, it may also introduce noise in highly mineralized soils. Balancing the sensitivity with an audible threshold (just above 0) allows the user to detect the faintest signals without overwhelming noise.
What is the role of the DIRT bar graph, and how does it assist in detecting through mineralized soils?
The DIRT bar graph indicates the amount of iron mineralization in the soil. In areas with high mineralization, this feature helps users adjust the ground balance and sensitivity to reduce false signals and increase the detection of small or deep targets.
How does the manual ground balance feature enhance performance in geologically complex areas?
Manual ground balancing enables users to fine-tune the detector for specific soil conditions, such as areas with rapidly changing mineral content (common in gold prospecting regions), which automatic balancing may not fully address.

Depth Detection Factors

The detection depth of a metal detector is primarily influenced by the size of the search coil. Typically, a coil will detect coin-sized objects at a depth roughly equivalent to the coil's diameter. For example, a 4" coil is likely to detect coin-sized objects up to 4" deep, whereas an 8" coil may detect similar objects at a depth of up to 8". However, detection depth can be significantly affected by several variables, including electromagnetic interference (EMI), detector sensitivity settings, and soil mineralization.

Soil conditions play a crucial role in depth detection. Here are three common soil types that can impact performance:

Highly Mineralized Soil: Rich in iron and other conductive minerals, this type of soil can cause false signals and reduce the detector's depth capability. The detector may struggle to differentiate between the soil and metal objects, leading to decreased accuracy.

Wet or Saline Soil: Soils with high moisture content or salinity, such as those found near coastal areas, can enhance conductivity, causing the detector to register numerous false signals. This interference may mask deeper targets and limit the effective detection depth.

Compact Clay Soil: Dense and compacted clay can create a challenging environment for metal detection. Its dense nature can impede electromagnetic signals, reducing the detector's sensitivity to deeper targets. Additionally, the moisture-retaining properties of clay may cause additional signal distortion.

Understanding these factors and adjusting the detector's settings accordingly can help optimize detection depth and accuracy across various conditions.
